Our mission is to promote the Indian culture by hosting community events such local picnics, Diwali and Garba and similar celebration and sports events. We will add new events and information based on members’ interests and the success or otherwise of particular events.
Based in Winston Salem NC, the Indian Association of the Carolinas was founded in 2014. The genesis of the organization began with small group of friends playing volleyball at the local YMCA. Before long an altruistic initiative was undertaken by this group to organize community picnic and the first picnic was held the spring of 2012. The picnic was a huge success. Based on the success of this event, a tradition was born. In the summer of 2014, this group teamed up with another organization with a view to holding a Navratri/Garba extravaganza event on scale not seen before in Winston Salem. Volunteers came from as far as Burlington, Elkin, Jonesville and Danville. Attendees came from Greensboro, Burlington, Wilkesboro and beyond. Many in the community at large stepped up to generously sponsor parts of the extravaganza. More than 550 people attended this event. The 2014 Navratri/Garba event needless to say, was a tremendous success.
The impetus to form this organization was spurred by the tremendous and overwhelming response, expressions of support and requests by the community at large.
We appeal to all in our community to join and express your support for our community. There are many hopes and ambitions of a community which we can fulfill as a community. To achieve and accomplish these ambitions we need the support of the community and this, the first step is to become a fully paid member. Levels of membership are noted on the form.
